« on: Today at 12:42:26 AM »
TORONTO -- In a month that continues to go from bad to worse, the Toronto Blue Jays came agonizingly close to a stirring comeback win Monday night before literally falling short. Another foot or so and Edwin Encarnacions ninth-inning blast to centre would have been a game-winning home run instead of a double off the wall to tie the game at 3-3. And the Jays joy at the three-run outburst in the ninth was short-lived when Bostons Yoenis Cespedes singled home the winning run in the 10th inning for a 4-3 victory that ended the Red Soxs eight-game losing streak. Shortstop Brock Holt singled off Aaron Sanchez (2-1) with one out and then stole second -- surviving an instant replay review -- and third before Cespedes sent the ball past a diving Munenori Kawasaki with two outs for the winning run. "We made a run at it. We needed another foot or two on Eddies ball," said Toronto manager John Gibbons. "And then we couldnt shut them down (in) that extra inning. So disappointing, definitely disappointing." Toronto, which is 6-15 this month, has now lost nine of its last 12 games and 11 of its last 16. It failed to score more than three runs for the 13th time this month. The opposition scored first for the fifth straight game, dropping Torontos record to 20-39 on the season when it falls behind out of the gate. It marked the fifth time in the last six home games that the Jays had gone to extra innings. Their record is 3-2 in such games over that stretch. The Jays (66-65) had hoped to put an end to their August swoon given their success this season against Boston. Toronto had won six straight against the Red Sox and 10 of the 13 meetings between the two prior to Monday. Left-hander Craig Breslow pitched the 10th for his first save, despite putting the tying run on via a walk. Boston (57-74) was in control going into the ninth, with starter Clay Buchholz holding the Jays to two hits over eight innings and homers by Mookie Betts and Dustin Pedroia giving the visitors a 3-0 lead. Buchholz struck out four and walked two in a near flawless outing that kept the dormant Jays offence in check until the ninth, when he loaded the bases on back-to-back Jose Reyes and Melky Cabrera singles and a Jose Bautista walk with one out. Closer Koji Uehara was unable to clean up the mess, allowing one run on an Adam Lind forceout and then two more on the Encarnacion double. Uehara (6-4) blew the save but still got the win. Boston manager John Farrell praised Cespedes heroics. "Cespy has been so good since coming over to us (from Oakland), getting RBIs in key moments, late-inning situations," he said. "Once again, today, with a game-winner. Whether its been with a base hit or a long ball, hes been big for us late in games." Buchholz had outduelled J.A. Happ, who struck out eight and gave up five hits in six solid innings before a crowd of 26,041 with the roof open at Rogers Centre. But the Jays left-hander fell victim to the long ball in the fifth inning. "Happ was really good," said Gibbons. "Just those two swings got him." Sanchez also paid the price for a mistake, leaving a breaking ball in the strike zone for Cespedes. Buchholz, who had lost his last three starts, had hoped to notch his 11th career win against the Blue Jays -- the most he has against any team. Instead he was left with a no-decision and remains 1-3 against Toronto this season. Singles by Danny Valencia in the third inning, Lind in the seventh, Reyes and Cabrera in the ninth and a walk in the fifth were the only blemishes on Buchholzs scorecard. He was helped by stellar fielding plays by second baseman Pedroia, shortstop Holt and third baseman Will Middlebrooks. "Clay was outstanding," said Farrell. "He was very efficient. A lot of balls on the ground. I thought we played outstanding infield defence behind him." It was Bostons first victory since a 10-7 decision over the Houston Astros on Aug. 16. The Red Sox were coming off a 2-9 homestand that saw them outscored 62-43 -- with 19 of those Boston runs coming in the two victories. Happ, in his 20th start of the season, struck out three of the seven batters he faced over the first two innings. But he ran into trouble in the third when he gave up a single and walk to open the inning. Left-fielder Cabrera came to the rescue, throwing out catcher Christian Vasquez as he tried to take third on a deep fly ball from Pedroia. Boston finally got to Happ in the fifth when Betts, the No. 8 hitter, slammed a 3-2 ball deep for a solo homer over the left field fence with one out for only his second career homer. Happ walked the next batter and Pedroia made him pay one out later with his sixth homer of the season, depositing the ball in the Jays bullpen for a 3-0 lead. The Red Sox now have 12 homers at Rogers Centre in 2014, their most at a visiting park. Happ walked two batters while throwing 111 pitches including 66 strikes before giving way to Todd Redmond. "Its definitely tough to take," said Happ. "I felt better than that. They put some good swings on a couple of balls but other than that I felt like I was executing pretty well." Abandoned by his offence, Happ was 1-3 in his six previous outings since the all-star break. He was given just 12 runs in support during those starts. Jays pitchers came into the game with a 4.79 earned-run average in August, third highest in the American League. And the Toronto offence ranked last in runs (62) and homers (10). The Jays escaped facing Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and his 461 career homers. Ortiz, who leads all visitors at Rogers Centre with 37 home runs, was given a day off after an eventful weekend that saw him hit by pitches on the elbow Saturday and on the foot Sunday. Dallas Goedert Jersey . Coach Randy Carlyle didnt know the severity of Bozaks injury. Bozak left the bench and went down the tunnel early in the second period, returned to play a handful of shifts and then did play in the third. Mike Wallace Eagles Jersey . Three pitches later, he was hugging Mike Napoli at home plate after his teammates winning home run. Napoli and Ortiz hit consecutive homers with one out in the 10th inning and the Boston Red Sox rallied past Minnesota 2-1 Wednesday, sending the Twins to their fifth straight loss. http://www.eaglesrookiestore.com/Eagles-Dallas-Goedert-Jersey/. The appointment of Boullier continues the behind-the-scenes restructuring at McLaren, who recently brought back former team principal Ron Dennis as its new chief executive. Josh Sweat Jersey . -- Pelicans coach Monty Williams does not expect guard Eric Gordon to play in any of New Orleans final five games this season. Markus Wheaton Eagles Jersey . Therrien would not confirm his lineup for the game, but he did have the same line combinations practicing together for the third straight day which is usually a pretty good indication of what the lineup will be.LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Two thoughts struck tight end Martellus Bennett almost as soon as he met new Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman. One was this. Trestmans a genius. The other? "Hes a lot like me," Bennett said, laughing. "I was like, I like this guy. Hes a lot like me. Hes a genius, Im a genius. Theres two geniuses in one room. Hey, lets go with it." All joking aside, this is a big week for Trestman. He makes his debut as an NFL coach when the Chicago Bears host the Cincinnati Bengals, and to say hes come a long way is no exaggeration. After years as an assistant in the league and on the college level before heading to the CFL, Trestman finally has his opportunity. Just dont expect him to get all sentimental when he walks into Soldier Field on Sunday. "I would think its going to be all business," Trestman said. "I just cant see it being bigger than that -- focus on the football team and my job during the course of the game. Im certainly very appreciative going out there being the head coach of the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Theres no doubt about it. But my focus is to continue to prepare this week and go out and do my job on Sunday." The Bears hired Trestman to replace the fired Lovie Smith, hoping he could spark their offence and get the most out of quarterback Jay Cutler. Now, theyll see how it all comes together. Theyll also be tested right from the start against a team that made the playoffs and boasts one of the top defences in the league, with Geno Atkins poised to wreak all kinds of havoc for the Bengals. Trestman spent the past five seasons as the head coach of the CFLs Montreal Alouettes, winning back-to-back championships, but it remains to be seen if that success will translate to Chicago. "When he talks to you, he understands how everythings interconnected between not only us but things that happen in our lives," said Bennett, beginning his first season in Chicago. "Everybodys connected and everyones part of everyones family." On the field, the Bears success hinges largely on a rebuilt offensive line and Trestmans ability to get through to Cutler, something past co-ordinators Ron Turner, Mike Martz and Mike Tice were unable to do. Either way, the spotlight is on the head coach. He has a strong history working with quarterbacks, including Bernie Kosar, Steve Young and Rich Gannon. Cutler, meanwhile, has somethhing to prove.dddddddddddd He also has an expiring contract, and the perception in Chicago is hes out of excuses. After all, the Bears have four new starters on the offensive line, including newcomer Jermon Bushrod at left tackle. They have an elite receiver in Brandon Marshall, a versatile running back in Matt Forte and a pass-catching tight end in Bennett. Mostly, he has an offensive-minded head coach. Theyre running the West Coast offence, which should get the ball out of the quarterbacks hands and cut back on the number of hits he absorbs. On the surface, it appears he has everything he needs. "Anyone who has really worked with him says kind of the same thing; hes going to do everything he can to protect the quarterback and hes going to try to make our job as easy as possible, which I think has rang true so far," Cutler said. Much has been made of his relationship with Trestman, but its not just about the quarterback. Everyone, it seems, is curious. Players like what they see so far from Trestman, but what happens when the games start to count? How will he handle the pressure? "I know Im very curious to see how once the season starts how he reacts when the pressure gets going and the bullets start flying," cornerback Tim Jennings said. "Everythings starting to be real. So Im real curious to see how he can manage the offence and manage the whole team as well. We all bought into the system. We believe in him, and so were just excited to get this thing going." Notes: Former star linebacker Brian Urlacher caused a bit of a stir by saying faking injuries was part of the Bears game plan. Now an analyst for Fox Sports 1, Chicago had a "designated dive guy" to slow fast-paced offences. If that was the case, Bennett said, the Bears werent the only ones. "Every team does that," he said. "Its just like when youre boxing, you get hit too many times you want to hold him up against the ropes. I think a lot of teams do that. Youve got to do whatever it takes to win the game." ... Trestman said D.J. Williams "moved well" in practice on Wednesday," but he still hasnt decided who will start at middle linebacker this week. Trestman left open the possibility that Williams and Jonathan Bostic could both see time there against the Bengals. ... The Bears had no players on their injury report on Wednesday. DENVER -- The Washington Nationals turned their clubhouse into a postgame rave scene, complete with blaring music, fog machine and dancing lights. A dazzling display -- almost as eye catching as their performance on the field. Ian Desmond tied a career high with five hits, including a two-run homer, and Doug Fister threw effectively into the sixth to help the Nationals beat the sinking Colorado Rockies 7-2 on Monday night. They were in quite a festive mood, too, as they took over sole possession in the NL East with Atlantas loss. "Anytime we win, its a great day," Fister said as he explained the light show. "We want to make sure we get that winning feeling." The 6-foot-8 Fister (9-2) -- all "elbows and knees" as Charlie Blackmon described him -- allowed nine hits before being pulled with two outs in the sixth after running into trouble. Desmond had four singles -- including one off the arm of reliever LaTroy Hawkins in the ninth -- to go with his 17th homer of the season. His approach at the plate is quite simple: "I just look for the ball and swing as hard as I can." The last time Desmond had five hits in a game was Sept. 15, 2011, at the New York Mets. "Kind of the way its been going for me lately," Desmond said. Franklin Morales (5-5) didnt pitch all that bad, except for one inning. He surrendered all four of his runs -- three earned -- in the fourth. "Other than that, he threw the ball well," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. Ben Paulsen had two hits and drove in a run in his major league debut for the Rockies, whove lost six straight and fell into a tie with Texas for the worst mark in the majors (40-59). Fister was cruising along until the sixth when the Rockies rallied for two runs on RBI singles from Nolan Arenado and Paulsen to make it 4-2. With the bases loaded and two outs, Nationals manager Matt Williams summoned Aaron Barrett from the bullpen to face pinch hitter Brandon Barnes. Barrett struck out Barnes with a slider in the dirt. "That was kind of, in my eyes, the turning point in the game," Desmond said. The Rockies had a little bit of a scare in that inning when Carlos Gonzalez was tagged out trying to slide into third base. He stayed down on the dirt for several minutes, clutching both wrists after jamming them into the ground. Gonzalez had surgery on his left index finger earlier this season and missed more than a month. He stayed in the game, but had a scrape on his right arm. "I dont know what else can happen this year," Gonzalez said. Washington padded its lead in the seventh on an RBI single from Wilson Ramos. Desmond later scored on a wild pitch. Colorado was missing several big bats from its lineup as Troy Tulowitzki missed a second straight game with a sore left thigh. Earlier in the day, Justin Morneau was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained neck. Taking Morneaus place at first was Paulsen, who was called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Hes the ninth different player to make his debut with the team in 2014. Paulsen lined a single to left in his first plate appearance. After Fister received the ball on the mound, he tossed it to a bat boy as a keepsake for Paulsen. Washington finally solved Morales in the fourth, scoring four times. Desmond gave Fister all the run support the right-hander would require with a two-run homer to left. Danny Espinosa drove in another run with a double and later scored when Morales tried to pick off Fister at first and threw the ball down the right-field line. Blackmon led off the first with a double, but Fister managed to escape. Fister struck out Gonzalez with a 79-mph changeup to end the inning. "You know you have to keep the ball down," Fister said. "Thats something we focused on a lot tonight." NOTES: Williams called OF Bryce Harpers day off "a one-day thing." Harper entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh and struck out, then briefly argued with the home-plate umpire over whether he foul tipped the pitch. Williams pulled Harper away. ... RHP Jordan Zimmermann (6-5), who left his last start with a cramp in his right biceps, will start Tuesday. The Rockies will throw LHP Yohan Flande (0-2). ... A woman was hit in the head when the bat slipped out of Gonzalezs hands in the fourth. She was escorted from her seat. Matt Williams Jersey .200. His solution to his hitting woes was business in the front and a party in the back."That would be a mullet," Norris says. San Francisco Giants Jerseys . Mohamed Diame put West Ham ahead in the 47th minute before goals by substitutes Carlton Cole and Joe Cole condemned Fulham to a fifth straight defeat, keeping the visitors in the bottom three. http://www.sfgiantsrookiestore.com/Giants-Barry-Bonds-Kids-Jersey/. The deals were announced on Friday. Beckham will receive $4.175 million in base salary, while De Aza will receive $4.25 million. Beckham hit .267 with five home runs and 24 RBIs over 103 games last season, his fifth with the White Sox. Andrew McCutchen Jersey . Starters, when they struggle, have to live with it for five days. For Sergio Santos and Steve Delabar, two of the three men who authored one of the ugliest pitched innings in Blue Jays franchise history on Thursday night, the bounce-back chance came right away. Austin Jackson Jersey . Anderson is scheduled to have neck surgery April 8 to repair the injury, which occurred when he collided with the Celtics Gerald Wallace during a game in Boston on Jan. 3. The 6-foot-10 Pelicans forward, who had been averaging 19.Fargo, ND (SportsNetwork.com) - North Dakota State trailing in the fourth quarter has been a rarity during its three-year reign as the FCS champion, but the Bison have come from behind to win two consecutive playoff games in eight days. Indeed, they continue to have the collective heart of a champion even as teams get closer in the rear-view mirror. Running back John Crockett rushed for 227 yards and two touchdowns and became the Bisons new single-season rushing leader while second-seeded North Dakota State held off eighth-seeded Coastal Carolina, 39-32, Saturday for the second consecutive year in the national quarterfinals. The game was far different from North Dakota States 48-14 playoff rout of Coastal last season, but the Bison (13-1) will host either Sam Houston State or Villanova, who also played Saturday, in the national semifinals next weekend. A week ago, the Bison rallied past Missouri Valley Conference rival South Dakota State in the final minute of their second-round game. On Saturday, they fell behind for the first time, 32-31, on Coastal running back DeAngelo Hendersons 2-yard touchdown run to open the fourth quarter. The Chanticleers, however, failed on a two-point attempt after a second straight score, keeping their lead at one point. North Dakota State then retook the lead two possessions later when Crockett found running room along the Coastal sideline and scored on a 45-yard dash with 9:28 remaining to play. Quarterback Carson Wentz ran up the middle to score a two-point conversion and lift the Bison advantage to 39-32. On Coastals next drive, the Chanticleers converted a fake punt just inside their territory, but didnt gain another first down on the drive. After NDSUs Adam Keller missed a 49-yard field goal that could have put the win away, Bison safety Colten Heagle stymied the Chants ffinal drive with an interception of Alex Ross just inside Bison territory with 53 seconds remaining.dddddddddddd Crockett, whos gained three 1,000-yard seasons, has 1,754 this season on a school-record 320 carries, including 26 on Saturday. Hes scored 17 of his 18 touchdowns on the ground. Wentz accounted for three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in the win. But Big South co-champion Coastal Coastal Carolina (12-2) was nearly up to the challenge as Henderson had 143 rushing yards and the touchdown, and Ross rushed for two touchdowns. It was the most points scored against NDSU during the playoff win streak. North Dakota State, which had won 22 straight home games and 14 consecutive playoff games, had hoped to assert itself in the second half after clinging to a 24-20 halftime advantage. After Coastals offense went three-and-out to begin the third quarter, the Bison completed a nine-play, 69-yard drive with Wentzs 2-yard scoring run around right end providing a 31-20 lead. But Ross capped the Chanticleers following possession by diving into the North Dakota State for a 4-yard touchdown and they pulled within 31-26 at the 3:29 mark. Hendersons go-ahead touchdown capped a quick-strike, four-play drive which went 95 yards when Ross had a 48-yard pass to John Israel, Henderson a 32-yard run and Ross a 13-yard pass to Osharmar Abercrombie. The first half featured offensive firepower as North Dakota State took a 24-20 lead at halftime. Crockett opened the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown and Wentz fired touchdowns to Kevin Vaadeland and Luke Albers. But Coastal moved the chains and Devin Brown returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown midway through the second quarter, tying the game at 17-17. Alex Catrons 25-yard field goal on the final play of the half pulled Coastal within 24-20. PHILADELPHIA Like the rest of his teammates, Carl Gunnarsson was doing what he could to remain positive after yet another loss, the seventh straight for the sinking Leafs, but it wasnt easy. The 27-year-old wants to believe that a turnaround is still possible, that his team can salvage the season, dig out from a deepening slide and claim a second straight playoff berth. But as time ticks down and the results continue to linger in the wrong direction, that belief is tested.   "Its a struggle," he said in a near-empty visitors dressing room at Wells Fargo Center. "Ill tell you that. We thought we had something going here tonight." Whatever fight they mustered in a 4-2 loss to the Flyers didt matter by the time the night was through. It was just another empty loss, another opportunity to regain ground for not. "Overall, I didnt think that we had that bad of a night," said coach Randy Carlyle afterward, but we were on the wrong side of the score and thats what counts the most." Never more evident than at this late stage in the season, the difference between winning and losing remained painfully thin. And for the Leafs it was just enough for defeat. Two power-play goals against, a few too many odd-man rushes, a bad break or two and a key mistake at the wrong time.  Claude Giroux was the benefactor of one such mistake that sealed defeat for the visitors. The Flyers captain picked off former teammate James van Riemsdyks neutral ice pass attempt - the puck ricocheted off the skate of Scott Hartnell - and zipped a bullet beyond the glove of Jonathan Bernier. "Right now every big scoring chance they get, I think it feels like its going in," said Bernier afterward. "When its not going your way, thats usually what happens." "I thought we played pretty good," he continued. "A few mistakes that end up being goals. From the last game, obviously, I think we played a lot better." But like their harrowing loss to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, one that saw them manhandled for half the game by the top team in the West, Fridays defeat in Philly counted all the same. It was just another loss at a critical point in the season. "We worked hard," Carlyle said. "Did we work smart enough in some areas? No." Any chance the Leafs have at resuscitation starts Saturday night in a massive showdown with the Detroit Red Wings. A victory reignites whatever belief and hope still lingers. They may have no hope of catching either the Montreal Canadiens or Tampa Bay Lightning, but sitting on near-equal ground with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Red Wings and Washington Capitals - all have 80 points, but with games in hand - a wild card position is still in play. "Obviously, this one, its going to be a tough one to swallow," Bernier said. "But, at the same time, we cant feel sorry for ourselves. [Saturday] is a big game and we all know that." Five Points 1. Carlyles Approach Carlyle has tried to push a few different buttons in midst of his teams recent slide. "Some days, it is a little bit more harsh. Some days, its a pat in the back. Some days its a hug," Carlyle said on Friday morning. "Whatever it is, whatever you feel is necessary. Nobody in life feels like coming to work and being ground into the dirt everyday and thats part of the process. Youve got to pick and choose when to apply pressure and when not to." As to his preferred approach of late, Carlyle said, "Its been more reality of the situation. Just showing and trying to get an understanding that were not that far away. But there are some areas that need to be addressed. Thats as simple as I can put it. Our compete level has to go up. We havent won enough one-on-one battles. Weve given up too many odd-man rushes and breakaways. Weve got to play better on the defensive side of the game." 2. Penalty Kill The Flyers scored twice on the power play, marking the 12th time this season that the Leaf penalty kill has given up two goals in a game this season. Vincent Lecavalier fired a laser for the first of two, a five-on-three goal that was not without some controversy. Jay McClement, taking the draw as Torontos lone forward, was thrown out of the face-off circle, charged with knocking the puck from the hand of linesman Michel Cormier. Dion Phaneuf promptly stepped in and lost the first (and likely last) face-off of his career, Lecavalier blowing the one-timer by Bernier just three seconds later. "Thats not something that you want to happen," McClement said of the face-off incident. "I dont think [Cormier] wanted to do it either. But he explained to me that its black and white when I knocked it out of his hand." Scott Hartnell would add the second power-play marker, redirecting a Kimmo Timonen point shot just beyond the grasp of Bernier. The Toronto penalty kill remains third-worst in the NHL this season. 3. Bollands Comeback Dave Bolland scored for the third time this season in Philadelphia and the first time since his left ankle was sliced by the skate of Zack Kassian on November 2. The 27-year-old hasnt played more than 13 minutes since he returned from the injury and he was kept right in that region against the Flyers. "I just see that in some of the situations, hes struggled with the mobility," Carlyle said of Bolland before the 4-2 loss. "Its not sore, [but] it just doesnt have the strength there. Wre going to try to find a way to get him some more minutes. We know what kind of player he is." 4. The 18-Wheeler Luke Schenn was there in 2012 when the Leafs collapsed and knows all too well how quickly the pressure rises in Toronto. "Lose a couple in a row and everything magnifies that much more," he said. "You lose three in a row and people tend to get on you a little bit. All the fans and the media think that everythings falling apart. Thats just the way it is over there. "Its obviously a tough market to play in when things arent going the way you want them to, but its a great market when things are going well. Theres always adversity in Toronto. Its never going to change. Im sure those guys are going to get through it." Reflecting back to the infamous 18-wheeler skid two years earlier, Schenn couldnt put his finger on just what wrong. "There is no exact reason why. Its probably a combination of different things. Id have to go back and look. Obviously, youre probably getting off to some tough starts in games. Special teams probably werent as good as they need to be. At the end of the day - when I was there - it probably just came down to being outcompeted some nights. Obviously, you lose a couple in a row, confidence isnt always there. Thats just the way it goes. Youve got to find ways to get out of it." 5. Gardiner Offence Just ahead of a clash with the Flyers three weeks ago, Jake Gardiner revealed his disappointment with the offence hed put together to that point. "I dont think my point production has been that great this year,"he said. "Id like to improve on that." The 23-year-old scored a goal the next night in a 4-3 overtime win, rounding up nine points in the past 11 games, including a helper on Bollands seventh goal this season. "Ive tried to jump in the play a lot more and be an offensive threat from the blue line," he explained of his recent surge prior to the game. Gardiner has 26 points on the year.  Stats-Pack 1-8-0 Leafs record in the past nine games. 9 Points in the last 11 games for Jake Gardiner. 3 Goals by Dave Bolland in Philadelphia this season. 24:31 Ice-time for James van Riemsdyk opposite his former team Friday, tied for the team-lead. 15 Consecutive games without a point for David Clarkson, who has just 10 this season. 8 Number of times the Leafs have allowed the first goal in the past nine games.4 Seconds elapsed in the second period before van Riemsdyk scored the first Leafs goal. It was the fastest goal to start a period for the team this season. Coming off a 4-3 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in Europa League play, Celtic was looking a ninth consecutive win in Scottish Premier League play and the Hoops got off the mark quickly as Brown opened the scoring after just four minutes. St Mirren pulled back an equalizer six minutes later through Sean Kelly, but the levvel score didnt last long as James Forrest put the defending champions back in front in the 15th minute.dddddddddddd Three minutes later Brown completed his double to give Celtic a 3-1 lead and Anthony Stokes added a fourth goal in the 67th minute to wrap up all three points in style. EDMONTON -- Bo Levi Mitchell isnt interested in tying or surpassing any personal records. He just wants his team to win. The Stampeders quarterback threw for 124 yards and a touchdown on Thursday night to improve to 7-0 as a CFL starter and help Calgary edge the Edmonton Eskimos 26-22. Rene Paredes nailed four field goals as the Stampeders improved to 4-0 on the season. Mitchell, meanwhile, tied former Stampeder Jeff Garcias league record for best career start. But after the game, Mitchell downplayed the accomplishment. "Its not a record that people even keep track of, Im surprised people even keep it," he said. "Im excited to be undefeated, but Im more excited our team is playing well and that we are undefeated. Ill try to keep that record intact as long as I can, but a loss is going to come at some point." Edmonton was guilty of a couple of major gaffes in the game, including the questionable decision to try and run a fake punt out of the end zone late in the second quarter, a failed effort which led directly to a costly Calgary touchdown. "I was surprised they did that," said Stampeders head coach John Hufnagel. "We were very fortunate to be able to stop that by inches. It was a big play of the game since we scored on the next play. This is the type of game where a head coach has to make decisions to try and help their team win. I went for a third-and-one and was stopped. You have to take those chances and just hope that they are executed. "Were struggling offensively, but we are still winning. We need to get better and hopefully we will get better." The Eskimos dropped to 4-1 on the year, missing out on a chance to surpass the total number of wins they had in a disappointing 4-14 campaign in 2013. "Youd like to win them all, youd like to go 18-0 and then win two more in the playoffs," said Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly, who threw for 212 yards with one TD and one interception. "But the reality is thats not going to happen, so you try to learn from these experiences. "This is a good football team that we played against. Theyve got the best record in the league now, but we also learned that if we do a few things better, we could win that football game." Edmontons defence was forced to come up big early as Eskimos punt returner Jamal Miles coughed up the ball just over a minute into the game on his own 27-yard line. That was as close as Calgary got, however, as they were held to a 36-yard Paredes field goal. The Eskimos came right back on their next possession with a 31-yard Grant Shaw field goal to tie it 3-3. Calgary came up with another big special teams play with six minutes remaining in the first quarter as Keenan MacDougall blocked a Shaw punt deep in the Edmonton zone and was able to pick it up and ramble the remaining six yards into the end zone to put the Stampeders up 10-3. "I kind of went through untouched," MacDougall said. "I had a nice bounce into my hands after a couple of other bounces." Pat White replaced Mike Reilly at quarterback to start the second quarter and instantly drew a pass interference call on an end zone pass. He would then take it in from the one-yard line to knot the game back up. It was Whites first CFL touchdown. Edmonton looked to have surged in front two minutes later on a 59-yard passing play from Reilly to Fred Stamps, however the play was called back on a holding infraction. The defensive battle continued as Fred Bennett picked off a Reilly pass at the Edmonton 45, eventually leading to a 36-yard Paredes field goal. The Eskimos responded with a 40-yarder from Shaw. Edmonton tried a fake punt with 24 seconds remaining as defensive back Aaron Grymes took off with the ball from his own end zone. It was a costly risk, however, as he was stopped just short of the first down, leading to a 16-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to Jeff Fuller and a 20-13 Calgary lead at the half. The Eskimos atoned for the miscue six-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter as they stopped the Stamps on a third down gamble at the Calgary 32-yard line. The next play Reilly was able to pass to a wide-open Shamawd Chambers for the touchdown to tie it once again. Calgary regained the lead in the pouring rain with just over a minute remaining in the third frame on a 29-yard Paredes field goal and then benefited from a bevy of Edmonton penalties to make it 26-20 six minutes into the fourth quarter on a 30-yarder from their kicker. Edmonton had a chance for an easy first down with one-and-a-half minutes down, but instead of driving it the inches necessary, tried a passing play only to see Reilly get sacked to force a punt. Calgary gave up a safety with 44 seconds left to run some time off the clock and put Edmonton on their own 35. The move allowed the Stamps to run out the clock from there. The Stampeders return home to face the B.C. Lions next Friday. Edmonton has a bye week before starting a two-game road swing in Montreal on Aug. 8. Notes: The last time the Eskimos were able to come away with a win against their provincial rivals was on Sept. 5, 2011. Calgary came into the game with eight wins in a row over Edmonton in the head-to-head match-ups. The Stampeders were without reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player Jon Cornish, who was placed on the six-game injured list with concussion symptoms. Eskimos linebacker J.C. Sherritt missed his fourth game this season. Calgary came into the game having allowed just three sacks this season, while Edmontons defence led the league with 18. The Stamps entered the match-up having surrendered a CFL-low 10 points a game, and just one touchdown, compared to the 14.5 scored against the Eskimos. Fans were just as interested in the 50/50 draw as they were the game. In their last home game against Ottawa, the jackpot of $71,732 went unclaimed and carried over to the game against Calgary. The potential for a big draw ignited a frenzy, as fans endured long lines to get a crack at the pot, which ended up at an astounding and record-setting $348,534. Because of the heavy demand, the draw couldnt be announced at the game. Instead plans were in place to announce it on the team website. ... SUNRISE, Fla. - Gustav Nyquist scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, helping lift the Detroit Red Wings over the Florida Panthers 3-1 on Thursday night. Brian Lashoff and Daniel Alfredsson also scored and Jimmy Howard made 23 saves as the Red Wings ended a four-game road losing streak. Scottie Upshall scored and Tim Thomas stopped 30 shots for Florida, which has lost four of its last five. Detroit took a 2-1 lead when Nyquist grabbed a rebound in the slot in the Red Wings zone, brought it along the left boards and beat Thomas high on the stick side at 13:22. Nyquist has nine goals in his last nine games. Lashoff added an empty-net goal with 20 seconds left. Florida took a 1-0 lead in the first despite a slow start. PITTSBURGH -- Bernhard Langer made a short birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff with Jeff Sluman to win the Senior Players Championship on Sunday. Langer appeared to be in trouble when his second shot on the par-5 18th ended up in the rough short of the green. He hit a brilliant pitch to 5 feet and made the putt after Slumans birdie attempt rolled just wide. The victory was the 56-year-old Langers third of the year and his third major title on the Champions Tour. The two-time Masters champion shot an even-par 70 to finish at 15-under 265 at Fox Chapel. Sluman had a bogey-free 65 to match Langer, but narrowly missed a birdie putt on the first playoff hole that would have won it. Russ Cochran, who trailed by seven shots early in the final round, had a 67 to finish third at 14 under. Defending champion Kenny Perry tied Langer for the lead heading into the back nine, but faded badly over the closing holes. Perrys 69 left him two shots out of the playoff. Langer nearly missed out on the playoff himself. He fought a balky putter much of the day only to hole a 35-foot birdie putt on the 17th that lifted him into a tie with Sluman. The normally reserved German pumped his fist in disbelief after the ball dropped into the cup. He parred 18 to match Sluman at 15 under and escaped one more time when Slumans birdie attempt on the first playoff hole burned the right edge. Sluman, the 1988 PGA champion, covered his hands in disbelief after the putt stayed out. Langer didnt let the reprieve go to waste, birdieing the 18th on his third try to earn his first major title on the 50-and-over circuit since the 2010 Senior British Open. It didnt come easy for a player who started the day with a comfortable three-shot advantage over Perry. The steady play that kept Langer atop the leaderboard for the better part of 54 holes abandoned him early in the round, opening the door for the rest of the field. Langer missed a short par putt at the par-4 fourth, and he turned the 295-yard par-4 seventh into an adventure when his pitch sailed over the green and his 5-foot comebacker for par popped off the back edge of the cup. Perry, who promised to go into "attack mode" to chase down his good friend, had little trouble tracking Langer down. He pulled even with a birdie at the seventh and did it again at the ninth, when he bounced back from a bogey at the eighth by holing out from a greenside bunker for birdie. A back-nine duel, however, never materialized. Both players started spraying shots -- including an ugly double bogey for Langer at the par-4 12th -- while Sluman quietly went about his business in the group ahead. Sluman slowly reeled in the front-runners, taking the lead with a birdie on the par-4 14th and adding another at the par-4 16th while Perry and Langer faltered behind him. The streaky Perry, trying to join Arnold Palmer as the only player to win consecutive Senior Players titles, cooled as the pressure mounted. He shot 3-over 38 on the back, failing to make a single birdie down the stretch as the crisp iron game that vaulted him into contention vanished. Marquette King Broncos Jersey . The Anaheim Ducks will start rookie goalie John Gibson again in Mondays Game 5 against the visiting Los Angeles Kings. Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau made the announcement on Sunday, a day after Gibson made 28 saves in his playoff debut in a 2-0, Game 4 victory. The second-round series between the Southern California rivals is tied at two games each. Boudreau also said that Matt Beleskey and Frederik Andersson would miss Game 5 with injuries and Jonas Hiller will be the back-up netminder. Mathieu Perreault will be a game-time decision. The 20-year-old Gibson was recalled by the Ducks from AHL Norfolk on Friday and was named to start ahead of Hiller with the Ducks down 2-1 in the series. Gibson became the youngest player in NHL history to record a shutout in his playoff debut. Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano was impressed with the rookie netminder. "I like his style. He has a pretty unique style in net. Hes a pretty calm, cool and collected guy," Cogliano told the Ducks website. Defenceman Bryan Allen was equally impressed with the debut performance. Top Picks: Following a down year in 2011-2012, Matt Duchene rebounded with his highest points-per-game (0. TORONTO -- On a night when the Blue Jays got some of their power back in the lineup, Chris Davis stole the show. The Baltimore slugger hit his 50th home run of the season in the eighth inning Friday night to snap a 3-3 tie as the Orioles rallied with five unanswered runs to defeat Toronto 5-3. "Hes having a great year," said Toronto manager John Gibbons. "Hes so strong he hits them anywhere, its got nothing to do with the park here. Some guys will get some cheapies here. He doesnt get any cheapies. "The thing that makes him so good is he hits them everywhere. Even in that home-run hitting contest in the all-star game, he was the only guy hitting some home runs to the opposite field. Hes dangerous. "I thought we might have had him on a checked swing earlier. And then he hits a home run. We didnt get the call there." Davis flied out deep to centre in the first inning, struck out in the third and flied out to left in the sixth before slamming a pitch from reliever Steve Delabar over the centre-field fence to lead off the eighth for a 4-3 lead. "I knew I barrelled it up," said Davis. "I tried to go the other way there with two strikes. Ive faced Steve a few times. You cant look for his split, as hard as he throws. I was just trying to put a good swing on it and stay through it." Visiting fan Steve Houff of Ellicott City, Md., who got the home run ball from a Jays fan for US$100, exchanged it with Davis for a signed bat and ball. Baltimore added another run in the inning when Danny Valencia singled home Adam Jones. Edwin Encarnacion and Colby Rasmus returned to the Toronto lineup, with Encarnacion scoring and Rasmus homering. But it wasnt enough as the Orioles (78-69) snapped a three-game losing streak, keeping their wild-card hopes alive while handing Toronto (67-80) its fourth consecutive loss. Baltimore also evened its 2013 record against the Jays to 7-7. It was Davis seventh home run against the Blue Jays this season -- and his 16th since the start of the 2012 season. And it tied the Orioles single-season home run record by Brady Anderson in 1996. Davis is the first player to hit 50 homers since Jose Bautista (with 54) did it in 2010. The 27-year-old first baseman becomes the third player in major league history to hit 50 home runs and 40 doubles in a season. The only others to accomplish the feat are Babe Ruth (59 homers and 44 doubles in 1921) and Albert Belle (52 and 50 in 1995). "Its a humbling feeling to be in the same company with the guys Im in," said Davis. Davis, who hit 33 homers last year for the Orioles, leads the majors in home runs this season. Trailing 3-0, Baltimore sent eight men to the plate in the seventh inning to tie the game. Homers by Adam Lind and Rasmuus had given Toronto the lead.dddddddddddd Hard-throwing Baltimore reliever Tommy Hunter, coming in with men on first and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh, snuffed out the Toronto threat by striking out Moises Sierra and J.P. Arencibia. Hunter (5-4) also took care of the eighth after giving up a leadoff single. Jim Johnson, coming on in the ninth, earned his 44th save while Delabar (5-4) suffered his second straight loss. Baltimore outhit Toronto 10-7. The seventh-inning Orioles rally ruined a fine performance by Jays starter Todd Redmond, making his first start in 10 days. Redmond, who had a strikeout in each of the first six innings, gave up one run on three hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter before giving way to Dustin McGowan with one out in the seventh. He threw 75 pitches including 50 strikes before a Rogers Centre crowd of 20,024 with the roof closed. Gibbons said the plan was to replace Redmond if he ran into any trouble, given his recent inactivity. "It backfired, but that was kind of the plan," he said. "It was kind of uncharted territory for him, hes been off a little bit. But he threw a whale of a game. We just didnt get the outs ... Sometimes winning a game, youve got to stop things before things develop." Redmond said he had more in the tank but was content to take the managers lead. Bud Norris was slated to start for the Orioles but was scratched due to elbow discomfort. He gave way to Jason Hammel, who was making his first start since July 28. Hammel went five innings, giving up three runs on three hits. He walked one, struck out two and threw 62 pitches, 39 for strikes. After seeing Jose Reyes thrown out at third to open the bottom of the first, Hammel retired 10 in a row before walking Encarnacion in the fourth with two outs in the fourth. Lind then punished him by homering to right-centre field for his 20th home run of the season. Encarnacion, who missed the last four games with a sore wrist, hit two deep shots just left of the left-field foul pole in earning the walk. The blast extended Linds hitting streak against the Orioles to 17 games. Rasmus, returning to the lineup after being sidelined since Aug. 11 with an oblique strain, added a leadoff homer into the Baltimore bullpen in the fifth to make it 3-0. It was his 19th of the season. Baltimore did not get a runner past second until the seventh inning when Jones hit a leadoff double. One out later, J.J. Hardy drove him in with a double off McGowan to trim the margin to 3-1. Ryan Flaherty then walked and, one out later, Steve Clevenger doubled home Hardy and Flaherty with a ball that bounced over the head of right-fielder Sierra to tie it at 3-3. DETROIT -- Dallas Keuchel outpitched college roommate Drew Smyly, and the Houston Astros edged Detroit 6-2 on Thursday to snap the Tigers eight-game winning streak. Houston also ended its own five-game losing skid. Keuchel (3-2) allowed two runs and six hits in 7 2-3 innings. Keuchel and Smyly were both on the Arkansas team that reached the College World Series in 2009. The two left-handers were both sharp early Thursday, but Houston broke through with three runs in the fifth off Smyly (2-2) to take the lead. Houstons George Springer, a first-round draft pick in 2011, hit his first major league homer. Carlos Corporan and Matt Dominguez also went deep for the Astros. Victor Martinez homered for the Tigers. Smyly allowed only one hit -- an infield single -- through the first four innings, but his outing took a turn for the worse in the fifth when Springer lined a one-out solo homer over the wall in right. Jose Altuve put the Astros ahead 3-2 with a two-run double later that inning. Smyly allowed three runs and five hits in 5 1-3 innings. He struck out two and walked three. Corporan homered off reliever Evan Reed in the seventh to make it 4-2. Keuchel struck out seven without a walk. His final big test came in the seventh, when Detroit put men on first and third with two out. Keuchel struck out pinch-hitter Torii Hunter to end the inning. Miguel Cabrera came to the plate in the eighth after Ian Kinslers single chased Keuchel, but the best the Detroit slugger could do against reliever Anthony Bass was a soft grounder to second. Dominguez hit a two-run homer in the ninth. The Tigers opened the scoring in the second on an RBI double by Nick Castellanos. Springer, who came close to preventing a homer by Cabrera the previous night, nearly caught this drive too, but it caromed off the wall in right field. Martinez hit his seventh homer of the year in the fourth. He finished the day with three hits, extending his hitting streak to 11. NOTES: Houston OF L.J. CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Bengals co-ordinators spent Monday taking phone calls from other teams arranging interviews for head coaching jobs. Coach Marvin Lewis isnt going anywhere, not even with that 0-5 playoff record. And Andy Dalton apparently is entrenched, too. He was reassured on Monday that hes still the franchise quarterback. The Bengals tried to move on Monday from one of the most painful moments in franchise history, a 27-10 loss at home to San Diego that stamped them as one of the NFLs worst playoff teams of all time. "Well be fine," Lewis said. "Today sucks. Well be better. Well be all right." When it comes to the playoffs, it cant get much worse. The Bengals havent won a playoff game since the 1990 season, a 23-year streak of futility thats tied for sixth-longest in NFL history. Theyve lost their opening playoff game three straight seasons, tying the NFL record. And Lewis is fast rising up the charts for post-season coaching defeats. Hes 0-5 in 11 years as the Bengals head coach. Only Jim Mora started his career with more consecutive playoff losses (6). The five straight playoff losses are tied for second-most overall -- Marty Schottenheimer, Jim Mora and Steve Owen lost six each. And the five straight playoff losses are the second-most with one team, trailing only the Giants Owen, who lost six playoff games in an 11-year span from 1939-1950. Lewis has a year left on his contract and is safe in Cincinnati, where owner Mike Brown is reluctant to change. Lewis bristled on Monday when asked if hes in a unique situation that way. "I dont think the situation is unique at all," Lewis said. "I think if the other places were in the situation -- they lost a playoff game after winning the division -- their head coach would be in place. Dont you?" The big off-season question is whether theyre still fully committed to Dalton, who has been horrid in three playoff losses. Dalton turned the ball over three times in the second half on Sunday, and has one touchdown pass and six interceptions in his three post-season games. Offensive co-ordinator Jay Gruden said on Monday that Dalton shouldnt be singled out for blame, noting the entire offence struggled. He acknowledged that Dalton played poorly in the second half, when Cincinnati was outscored 20-0. "If there is one negative, I think that Andy probably pressed a little too much and tried to do too many things out of pocket which is not what his strength is," Gruden said. Dalton is entering the final year on his deal, so the Bengals have to decide whether to offer a long-term extension or consider other options. Lewis reassured him on Monday that his confidence in him hasnt wavered. "I think everybody knows what Ive been able to do here, what weve been able to do since Ive been here as a team," Dalton said. "And so I think Ive got a lot of confidence in the stuff Marvin has been telling me. I expect to be here for a long time. Im hoping that is the case." Theres a chance both co-ordinators could move on. Gruden said the Vikings, Titans and Redskins have contacted him about interviews later in the week. Defensive co-ordinator Mike Zimmer expects to have three interviews later in the week, though he wouldnt identify the teams. Both have interviewed for head coaching jobs in the past. The defence finished the season ranked No. 3 and the offence was No. 10. "Ive been in the league now three years as a co-ordinator and obviously with my brother (Jon) for a lot of years," Gruden said. "If that challenge were to come about, I think Id be ready. But Im happy staying here too." Zimmer has been Cincinnatis defensive co-ordinator for six seasons. Hes never been a head coach. "You never know what happens," he said. "Who calls? Whos really interested? Whos not? Theres so many different variables." Players tossed their gear in bags and put their old cleats in donation boxes in the locker room on Monday, knowing theyre in for another year of shouldering the label of the team that cant win the big one. When asked whether hell look back on the 11-win, AFC North championship season as a partial success or as a total disappointment, linebacker Vontaze Burfict winced. "Its a disappointment," he said. ---- NOTES: The Bengals signed WR Cobi Hamilton, C T.J. Johnson, DE David King, CB Onterio McCalebb, LB Bruce Taylor and C Scott Wedige to futures contracts. TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie tweeted on Monday that Hemsky will be going to market as an unrestricted free agent on July 1.SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres took a break from a dizzying series of trades Friday afternoon to introduce one of their new sluggers, Matt Kemp.Kemp, in turn, put the blockbusters by general manager A.J. Preller into perspective as only a guy fresh from Hollywood could. This is unbelievable. Hes a GM rock star right now, moving in and out and doing so many things right now, said Kemp, who sat between Preller and manager Bud Black at news conference at Petco Park. Every day theres something different.Preller smiled and said, Thats definitely the first time Ive gotten the rock star tag.Later, Preller, a native New Yorker, said he listens to Frank Sinatra most mornings, but I dont know if that characterizes me as a rock star.Preller has certainly gotten the Padres humming with a badly needed new identity in just more than a week.Since Dec. 11, Preller has worked a five-player deal with the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers to get Kemp; an 11-player deal with Tampa Bay and Washington to get outfielder Wil Myers, the 2013 AL Rookie of the Year with the Rays; a six-player deal with Atlanta for slugger Justin Upton; a four-player trade with Oakland that landed All-Star catcher Derek Norris; and a straight-up trade with Boston to get third baseman Will Middlebrooks for catcher Ryan Hanigan, who came over from Tampa Bay.Prellers wheeling and dealing isnt over yet, since he has a surplus of outfielders. Its a stunning haul for a team that has had only two winning seasons since its last playoff appearance, in 2006.Preller said acquiring Kemp kicked-started the process, and the other deals started falling into place.Preller has managed to give Black a more well-rounded club that gives us a chance, while retaining top three starters Andrew Cashner, Tyson Ross and Ian Kennedy, and most top prospects. We wanted to get a core group that we could give to Buddy and his coaches and hopefully have that group play together for a long time, Preller said.Preller said the Padres are taking a win now and win later attitude. I dont think we went out and just emptied the cupboards and dont have any other players in the system. We definitely looked at different paths to the off-season and one of the things that was attractive to us was to find a way to get offence without touching the front-line pitching in the big leagues.Black said the calibre of players that have come in in a short period of time is extremely impressive, from All-SStars to MVP candidates to guys who are talked as potentially some of the best players in the game as far as talent and production.ddddddddddddreller was hired in August after developing a reputation as a hard-working, hard-charging scouting and player development executive with the Texas Rangers.Kemp and Upton are among the games top power hitters.Kemp had a strong second half in 2014 for the NL West champion Dodgers. He finished the season with a .287 average, 25 home runs and 89 RBIs. That deal, agreed to early the morning of Dec. 11 at the winter meetings in San Diego, was finalized Thursday night.Although hes hit well at Petco Park, Kemp said he hated facing Padres pitchers. Now we have some offence and were going to help them score runs, he said.On Thursday, there was a report the Padres were concerned that Kemp had arthritic hips.Ive got a little arthritis, he said, adding that its nothing to worry about. These hips are unbelievable, man, he said to laughter. These hips are great. You all keep talking about my hips. You want to see my hips, man? Strong hips.Upton, who will earn $14.5 million in the final year of his contract, had 29 homers and 102 RBIs last season. That deal has yet to be finalized.Preller seems to be a later-day Trader Jack McKeon, just without the cigar. McKeon was general manager of the Padres when they went to the World Series in 1984, earning his nickname for his fondness for deals. The Padres also got catcher Tim Federowicz and $32 million from the Dodgers to help defray the remaining $107 million on Kemps deal. The Padres obligation of $75 million to Kemp during the next five years becomes the biggest contract in club history. The Dodgers got catcher Yasmani Grandal and right-handers Joe Wieland and Zach Eflin.Myers and Hanigan came over from Tampa Bay in an 11-player, three-team deal. The Padres gave up catcher Rene Rivera and four prospects. Shortly after that trade was finalized Friday morning, Preller flipped Hanigan for Middlebrooks.Upton and a minor league pitcher cost Preller four prospects, including lefty Max Fried. The Padres had a historically awful offence in the first half of 2014. Although they played better in the second half, they finished at the bottom of the majors with a .226 average, .292 on-base percentage and 535 runs. Their 109 homers were the second fewest in the baseball.___Follow Bernie Wilson on Twitter at http://twitter.com/berniewilson Wholesale Jerseys 2018 NFL Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL White Jerseys Black China NFL Jerseys NFL Jerseys Cheap White NFL Jerseys Cheap Cheap NFL Jerseys Camo China Jerseys Stitched Jerseys China NFL Gear Cheap Jerseys Throwback Cheap Stitched Jerseys Youth NFL Jerseys Cheap Cheap NFL Hoodies NFL Jerseys Wholesale China Jerseys Cheap Wholesale Jerseys China NFL Jerseys White Wholesale NFL Autographed Jerseys Stitched Jerseys ' ' '

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The goals came one after another. Riding a healthy power play, the Philadelphia Flyers beat the highest-scoring team in the NHL at their own game. Jakub Voracek, Mark Streit and Brayden Schenn had power-play goals and the Flyers scored five times in the second period to snap a nearly two-year losing streak against the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 7-3 win on Monday night. Chris VandeVelde, R.J. Umberger and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare also scored for the Flyers, who have at least one power-play goal in 11 of their last 13 home games and in six of their last seven overall. Schenn, who snapped a 15-game goal drought, said they moved the puck well and kept it simple on the power play. I dont think we did anything we dont normally do, he said. We just got some shots on net and the pucks went in. It was their first win over Tampa Bay since Feb. 5, 2013, snapping a six-game losing streak. It was just their second win over the Lightning in the last 11 meetings. With Steve Mason out for two weeks with a lower-body injury he suffered in Saturdays loss to Boston, the Flyers turned to Rob Zepp, the 33-year-old who became the oldest NHL goaltender in 88 years to win his first career start last month. Zepp made 21 saves in his second start and the Flyers won for the third time in four games after a five-game losing streak. Steven Stamkos and Ryan Callahan had power-play goals and Brian Boyle also scored for the Eastern Conference-leading Lightning, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Two penalties by former Philadelphia defenseman Matthew Carle in the second period, including a double-minor for high-sticking, led to three Flyers goals. NHL points leader Voracek fired a slap shot past Evgeni Nabokov and Bellemare ended a 28-game drought with a re-direction through his own legs for an even- strength goal that knocked the Lightning goaltender out of the game 2:36 into the period and gave the Flyers a 4-1 lead. Streit scored on a power-play at 7:02 after some nifty puck movement in front of Ben Bishop and the Flyers had a two-man advantage when Schenn beat Bishop with a wrist shot from the right circle. They ended 3-for-4 on the power play. Raffl made it 7-1 later in the period and the Lightning got a fluke goal 22 seconds later, at 15:23, when a shot by Boyle bounced over Zepp. Callahan scored 80 seconds into the third period. Both teams had two players named to the NHL All-Star Game on Saturday and all four contributed on the first two goals. First-time All-Star Voracek started the rush that led to Philadelphias first goal with Claude Giroux getting an assist for his pass to Luke Schenn, whose shot from the point was re-directed by VandeVelde 6:12 into the game. Tyler Johnson, who will also make his All-Star Game debut, fired a pass from the far side of the right circle to set up Stamkos tying goal on a one-timer from the slot at 10:26. The Flyers took the lead after Matt Reads pass hit the skate of a defender and Umberger slid a backhand inside the post with 3:45 left in the period. Game Notes Streit led the Flyers with three points ... Nabokov gave up four goals on 13 shots and Bishop allowed three on 12 ... The Flyers are 4-12-1 against Tampa Bay since the start of the 2010-11 season. Before that, they were 39-22-8-2 from the Lightnings inception in 1992 through the end of the 2009-10 season ... The Flyers visit Washington on Wednesday ... The Lightning remain on the road to play Boston on Tuesday. Alec Martinez Jersey . Showing more spark after not taking enough challenging shots on goal in their 1-0 loss Friday night, the Bruins had 18 shots in the first period after managing just 25 in the entire opener. Luke Glendening cut Bostons lead to 2-1 at 13:20 of the second period before Milan Lucic scored late in the second and Zdeno Chara added a power-play goal early in the third. Drew Doughty Jersey . The eighth-year point guard played in his 500th career game on Sunday, a 98-93 win over the Orlando Magic.  Does he feel like hes played in that many games? "No," he said initially, before reconsidering. http://www.nhlkingsauthority.com/authentic-jeff-zatkoff-kings-jersey/. It was a loss. But it was also a learning experience. Deron Williams and Joe Johnson had 24 points each to lift Brooklyn to a 94-87 win over the Raptors, making their first playoff appearance since 08. "I thought we played a little bit as expected as it is our first playoff game," Toronto coach Dwane Casey said. Marian Gaborik Jersey . Garcia had eight birdies overall to go with a lone bogey on the fourth to move to an 18-under total of 198 at the Asian Tour event. "I was able to hit some really nice shots and then was able to roll two or three really good putts in and it was nice to be able to finish birdie, birdie on this difficult finishing stretch," Garcia said. Jonathan Quick Jersey . His chance at winning a Stanley Cup in Philadelphia is over. Same with Jeff Carter. And Brian Boucher. Throw in Ville Leino and Dan Carcillo.BALTIMORE -- As rain washed over Camden Yards, Brandon Workman found his happy place underneath the stadium seating bowl. Workman maintained his pitching rhythm in a batting cage during the second of two rain delays. Upon his return, the right-hander was virtually unhittable. Workman allowed one single over 6 2-3 innings, and the Boston Red Sox beat Chris Tillman and the Baltimore Orioles 1-0 on Tuesday night for their second win in eight games. Mike Napolis third-inning RBI single was all the offence the Red Sox needed to come out on the positive end of a pitchers duel for the first time this season. Boston was 0-18 when scoring fewer than three runs. Workman (1-0) walked one and struck out four in earning his first win as a starter since last July. He held the Orioles hitless until Ryan Flaherty lined a soft single to centre with two outs in the sixth. Workman had to overcome two stoppages, both in the second inning. The first lasted 15 minutes, the second 1:18. "It wasnt that bad," Workman said. "I went down and threw in the batting cage a little bit to stay loose, to stay ready." After retiring Nick Markakis to end the sixth inning, Workman got two straight outs in the seventh before being lifted. It was the longest outing of a 27-game career that includes seven starts. "He was outstanding, especially in light of the two different rain delays," Boston manager John Farrell said. "He was able to stay loose with a couple of almost simulated innings in the batting cage." Workman retired the first 13 batters before Nelson Cruz drew a walk. J.J. Hardy followed with a popup to second base, and Cruz took off for second and was easily doubled up. "Its no excuse," Cruz said. "I should know better. It shouldnt have happened." Earlier, Boston third baseman Xander Bogaerts robbed the Orioles of two potential hits in the third inning. He snagged a bunt by David Lough and threw out the fleet runner, then made a diving stab of a line drive by Flaherty. The no-hit bid gained steam later, but Workman said, "I was not really thinking about it. I was just trying to stay in the moment and keep executing pitches and keep working each batter. Not getting ahead of myself." Workman will have a hearing Friday on his appeal of a six-game suspension.dddddddddddd He was suspended after the league determined he was intentionally throwing in the "head area" of Tampa Bays Evan Longoria on May 30. If he is forced to miss time, Workman certainly went out on a high note. "Honestly, when we started back up, I thought if he got through four innings that might be enough for tonight," Farrell said. "But as efficient as he was, as strong as he was, he just kept putting up zeroes and retiring guys consecutively so we continued to stay with him." Baltimores only other hit was a single by Steve Pearce in the ninth off Koji Uehara, who earned his 13th save. Tillman (5-3) gave up one run and seven hits in six innings. It was his first loss in six starts since May 11. "Tough conditions tonight for both teams but you wont hear any excuses from us," the right-hander said Manny Machado started at third base for the Orioles despite receiving a five-game suspension and a fine for intentionally throwing his bat in Sundays game against Oakland. Machado appealed the suspension, batted second and went 0 for 4, making the final out on a strikeout. Tillman got off to a rocky start following the second rain delay. Brock Holt led off the third with a single, David Ortiz walked and Napoli delivered a two-out, opposite-field RBI single to right. Boston used three straight singles to load the bases with no outs in the fourth. Tillman struck out Holt, then got Bogaerts to bounce into a 6-4-3 double play. Over the first four innings, the Red Sox had seven hits and three walks but scored only the one run after stranding seven and hitting into two double plays. NOTES: Red Sox GM Ben Cherington said before the game that an overhaul of the roster is not yet necessary for the struggling team. "Im betting on the players we have in there," he said. ... Holt extended his hitting streak to a career-high 10 games. ... Wei-Yin Chen makes his 10th career start against the Red Sox in the series finale Wednesday night. Hes 3-3 with a 5.26 ERA. Rubby De La Rosa will start for Boston. ... Markakis 14-game hitting streak ended. ... Baltimores Chris Davis went 0 for 3 with three strikeouts. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres have put their youth movement on hold a week after Pat LaFontaine took over. LaFontaine, the teams new president of hockey operations, announced a significant roster shuffle on Tuesday, when the Sabres demoted four rookies before their home game against St. Louis. Veteran defenceman Mike Weber also was activated from injured reserve after missing 10 games with a thumb injury and is expected to play against the Blues. Defenceman Nikita Zadorov was returned to his Canadian Junior team, the Ontario Hockey League London Knights. The move was made before Zadorov played his 10th NHL game, which is when his three-year contract would come into effect. Drafted 16th overall in June, Zadorov had a goal in seven games in Buffalo. Fellow 2013 first-round pick, defenceman Rasmus Ristolainen, and forward Johan Larsson were assigned to the Sabres AHL affiliate in Rochester, N.Y. Center Mikhail Grigorenko is also heading to Rochester but on a conditioning assignment. That move gives the Sabres two weeks to determine whether to recall Grigorenko or send him to his junior team in Quebec. Grigorenko has struggled finding a niche in Buffalo since being selected in the first round of the 2012 draft. After making the Sabres roster to start last season, Grigorenko was returned to Quebec in March. He made the Sabres once again this season, but has lacked playing time. Grigorenko has missed five of the past seven games and has two goals and an assist in 15 games this season. The demotions mark a significant shift in philosophy under LaFontaine and interim coach Ted Nolan. The two took over after general manager Darcy Regier and coach Ron Rolston were fired last week after the Sabres got off to a franchise-worst 4-15-1 start. Regier made it clear that he was intent on rebuilding the Sabres through younger players, no matter the teams record. On Tuesday, Nolan said the Sabres intend to fill the open roster spots later this week by recalling players from Rochester. One potential candidate is veteran forward Patrick Kaleta, who was assigned to Rochester after being waived by the Sabres two weeks ago. Dee Gordon Jersey . He said last month that his aim was to convince the Broncos he, and not Prater, was their man.Still, he was surprised hed done just that.I mean, Matt had a great year last year and hes done very well for himself. I still consider him in the top three kickers in the NFL, McManus said. Just the chance the Broncos are giving me (shows) the confidence they have in me and Im excited with that opportunity.GM John Elway said releasing Prater, the longest-tenured member of the team, was a very difficult football decision. But perhaps an easy financial choice: Prater was due $2.294 million in base salary this season and $3.25 million next year. McManus is making $420,000 this season and $510,000 next year.Thats a difference of more than $4.6 million, money that could come in handy as the Broncos turn their attention to long-term deals with Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas and Chris Harris Jr.McManus, Elway said, has earned the opportunity to continue kicking for our team with how well hes played to start the season. He has a very strong leg and we have confidence in him on both field goals and kickoffs. This summer, McManus pushed Giants incumbent Josh Brown just as he had Adam Vinatieri in Indy a year earlier. By sticking with McManus, the Broncos owe New York a seventh-round draft choice in 2015.Prater had given the Broncos reason to fret not only with his continued slip-ups but also with a poor performance in the preseason, something he blamed on his pending punishment weighing on him.Prater has been in the NFLs substance-abuse program, which includes alcohol,, since a DUI arrest on Aug.dddddddddddd 12, 2011. He was originally facing a ban for a full season but his lawyer negotiated a four-game ban instead.Prater said he realized one more strike meant hed face sitting out an entire calendar year when he had some beers not long after the Super Bowl. Why did I risk it? Prater said back on Aug. 25. I made a mistake. I dont have an excuse for it. I screwed up and now Im paying the price for it.That price got heavier Friday.Prater led the league last year by making 25 of 26 field goals, including a record-setting 64-yarder against Tennessee. He also led the NFL with 81 kickoff touchbacks.Prater missed two of four field goal attempts in the preseason, including a 49-yarder in an 18-17 loss to Houston after learning before kickoff that hed be suspended.McManus didnt face a clutch kick in Denvers first three games, but he did everything he was asked, making a trio of short field goals and all eight of his extra points. He also allowed just two returns on 16 kickoffs.Ive been very impressed with him, coach John Fox said. Hes got great potential. Hes a great young kicker.Broncos holder Britton Colquitt said Prater wont be out of a job for long.I think there will be at least 20 teams trying to put offers in, Colquitt said. And hell be able to have his choice, because hes that good. No one can argue with that. Hes probably just in the middle of his career. He could be at Kansas City or Oakland or San Diego. Some fans took to Twitter to criticize the Broncos for jettisoning Prater when they stuck by two front office executives who were arrested on drunken driving charges in 2013, one of whom is serving a work-release jail sentence.Anytime you make football decisions in an organization, especially with somebody thats been with you for a period of time like Matt, its always difficult, Fox said. But its always a football decision, whats going to give us the best chance in our opinion. And I wish Matt nothing but the best moving forward.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Wholesale Jerseys 2018 NFL Jerseys Cheap Wholesale NFL White Jerseys Black China NFL Jerseys NFL Jerseys Cheap White NFL Jerseys Cheap Cheap NFL Jerseys Camo China Jerseys Stitched Jerseys China NFL Gear Cheap Jerseys Throwback Cheap Stitched Jerseys Youth NFL Jerseys Cheap Cheap NFL Hoodies NFL Jerseys Wholesale China Jerseys Cheap Wholesale Jerseys China NFL Jerseys White Wholesale NFL Autographed Jerseys Stitched Jerseys ' ' '

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. -- Corban Knight snapped out of his scoring slump in a big way Friday night, with some help from an old friend. Knight scored twice and assisted on another as the Abbotsford Heat blanked the visiting Hamilton Bulldogs 6-0 in American Hockey League action. After recording five points in the final three games of December, Knight had no goals and just two assists in nine games through the month of January. "Id definitely say I was a little snake-bit the last little while here, and things werent coming my way," said Knight. "It was nice to get a couple nice set-ups from the guys, and I was able to put them in. Hopefully Ill kind of put that behind me and move forward here." Knight was matched up with former linemate at the University of North Dakota Evan Trupp. Trupp responded with his first multi-point game since being called up from the ECHLs Alaska Aces. "We played two years together, and were really good friends, too," said Knight. "The fact we were put together, I think we were both pretty excited about it, and we were able to get some chemistry going tonight." Besides recording two second-period goals, Knight picked up the second assist on Markus Granlunds opening goal and was also in the crease for a Heat goal that was waved off in the first period. "Hes going through a learning curve like a lot of our guys," said Heat head coach Troy Ward. "Theyre kind of over that hump of, Im tired now. Some of our college guys that come out, thats really hard for them. Hes got a little bit more energy to his game, and Trupp made a difference." Blair Jones had two goals in his first game since being put on waivers by the Calgary Flames on Wednesday. With the addition of Jones and Shane OBrien, who was also sent down by the Flames, along with Heats signing of Trevor Gillies, the Abbotsford dressing room is beginning to get quite crowded. Derek Smith and Sven Baertschi are also recent Flames demotions. "Our team is at probably one of the most competitive points for ice time," said Ward. "Thats based on health and depth. It might get worse next week when the NHL shuts down and they assign players, creating more of a log jam. Its a healthy situation. It makes coaching decisions a little bit harder but thats part of our job." Josh Jooris also scored, while Max Reinhart had two assists as Abbotsford (27-14-4) got back in the win column after consecutive overtime losses last weekend. Joni Ortio stopped 34 shots for his second shutout of the season, and was a factor despite the lopsided win. "Hes one of the unsung heroes," said Ward. "He made some huge saves at critical times. We gave them a couple good looks and he was there and made it look pretty easy." Dustin Tokarski made 22 saves for Hamilton (20-19-4), which has won just once in its past five outings. After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Ortio woke up his club with a huge save midway through the second period. "Joni made some big saves in the second period when they had a couple cross-ice plays," said Jones. "Its kind of what Ive been seeing from him all season." Hamilton got a three-on-two rush while at the tail end of a penalty kill, but Ortio made a great save, sliding across to deny Martin St. Pierres one-timer at the side of the net. During a post-whistle scuffle the Heat came away with another power play and this time made it count. Max Reinhart fed Granlund and the Swede beat defender Darren Dietz at the blue-line and skated in on Tokarski, scoring blocker side for his team-high 18th of the season at 10:26. Then, just 1:27 second later the Heat built on their momentum. Brett Olson put a perfect backhanded saucer pass on the tape of Knight in the slot and the High River, Alta. native made no mistake, beating Tokarski glove side. Knight picked up his second with less than a minute to go in the period. Trupp came off the side boards and shovelled the puck to Knight in the high slot. This time he went top corner, blocker side for his 11th of the season. Jooris made it 4-0 with his fifth of the season at 7:20 of the third. He took a feed from Baertschi, cut to the front of the net and swept the puck around Tokarski. Jones completed the onslaught, scoring twice in less than two minutes. First he redirected Reinharts perfect feed at 9:52, then wired a one-timer between Tokarskis pads for his 10th of the season. Sean Doolittle Jersey .C. -- Marcus Paige and his North Carolina teammates have endured so many wild swings -- big wins, surprising losses, NCAA drama -- that no one can blame their Hall of Fame coach for wondering whats next.MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Sam Reinhart spent plenty of time growing up in Vancouver playing hockey in an upstairs playroom with brothers Max and Griffin. The sons of longtime NHL defenceman Paul Reinhart broke a few windows, but it was worth it as they grew up in the game. Max was a third-round pick of the Calgary Flames in 2010, but it took Sam seeing Griffin put on a New York Islanders jersey as the fourth overall pick in 2012 to start to visualize what his draft-day moment could be like. Thatll come June 27 in Philadelphia as Sam Reinhart is expected to be one of the top three picks. Once that sinks in and Reinhart goes about preparing for his first NHL training camp, he will draw from the experience he had in early May with Canadas world hockey championship team. The Kootenay Ice forward thinks hes ready for the pros because he joined Team Canada for its training camp and exhibition game against Switzerland in Zurich. "I got a little taste of it at the international level for a couple days in Switzerland," he said Friday at the NHLs annual scouting combine. "It was pretty amazing to see how I handled practice one compared to practice three and really picked up the pace and felt comfortable pretty quick out there." Reinhart had to think quick well before he ever stepped onto the ice. He got the call from Hockey Canada on Friday night and needed to decide whether to get on a plane to Europe Saturday afternoon. "It was a pretty quick turnaround to kind of drop everything and go over there," the 18-year-old centre said. "It was a tough decision at the time but really turned out to be a positive experience. Its really paying off right now." Reinhart didnt have much more to prove. He had represented Canada the under-18 world championships twice, winning gold in 2013, and then was on this past years world-junior team. Named WHL player of the year for putting up 105 points in 60 games with the Ice, Reinhart is third among North American skaters in NHL Central Scoutings final rankings. But it didnt hurt Reinhart to show what he could do surrounded by players who will soon be his peers. He already knew Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Morgan Rielly, Flames centre Sean Monahan and Canucks defenceman Jason Garrison, but being on the ice with them in that environment was a different story. "He didnt look out of place,"t; Team Canada coach Dave Tippett said in a phone interview Friday afternoon.dddddddddddd "He carried himself like a pro player. He picked up the things we were trying to do in the drills very well. The biggest thing you could tell, and its probably a little bit because of his upbringing -- he wasnt intimidated by the situation at all and just jumped in there and played." Even though Reinhart was an extra forward for the exhibition game, Tippett liked how he made the most out of his eight or nine minutes of ice time. Had an injury occurred before the team left Zurich, there was some discussion about adding Reinhart to the team, which wouldve made him the youngest by two months over Nathan MacKinnon. Reinhart worked to show what he could do if that happened. "Youre not going in with the mind-set that youre coming home in a couple days," he said. "You know obviously the odds are you will. But you never know what happens at that point." Ultimately, Reinhart got sent home while the Canadian team went on to Minsk. But not before he made a positive impression on Tippett and his staff. "Hes a mature kid," Tippett said. "Obviously I think being from a family that has grown up around pro hockey, that helps the situation. You could tell that he wasnt in awe of the situation at all. He just got in there and got to work and fit in well with the group." Reinhart is part of a bigger group at this weeks combine outside Toronto as one of 117 of the top prospects going through interviews and then fitness testing Saturday. Along with Kingston centre Sam Bennett and Barrie defenceman Aaron Ekblad, though, Reinhart is part of the small faction of potential No. 1 selections, whether the Florida Panthers keep or trade the pick. The six-foot-one, 186-pound playmaker is known for his hockey sense and vision. Of course there are things he feels like he needs to get better at, including lower-body strength. "It just doesnt happen over a summer, Ive been focusing on it for a long time now and I feel confident with it," Reinhart said. Another question is his speed, but if Reinhart himself was at all worried, Zurich made him feel better. "I felt with the pace over there I kept up pretty well," he said. "I felt really confident with it, leading into the next day and it was amazing how much you improved." ALAMEDA, Calif. - Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie never doubted he would bring back coach Dennis Allen for a third year despite back-to-back 4-12 records. If anything, McKenzie believes the team is on the cusp of turning around what has been a decade-long tailspin and likes the direction the franchise is moving under Allen. Speaking to reporters for the first time in more than two months, McKenzie said Thursday that he purposely kept a low profile while rumours swirled about Allens job status during the final month of the regular season in hopes the chatter would go away. Oakland ended the season on a six-game losing streak and dropped eight of its last nine. McKenzie still gave Allen a vote of confidence and pointed out the teams dearth of talent on the roster. A situation that was probably the best for both parties, Whisenhunt said Tuesday night on his weekly radio show. Somebody that was interested and we got something out of it. Its good for us, its good for Akeem, and wish him the best. The Titans traded Ayers and their seventh-round draft in 2015 to the Patriots and will receive New Englands sixth round draft pick pending a physical, according to multiple reports. Ayers had been scratched five of seven games this season iin Tennessee where the Titans switched to a 3-4 scheme under co-ordinator Ray Horton.dddddddddddd A second-round draft pick in 2011 out of UCLA, Ayers started 44 of 48 games his first three seasons, including all 16 as a rookie. He led the Titans with 110 tackles and was second with a career-high six sacks in 2012. But he had surgery to repair the patella tendons in both knees this off-season. With the Titans bringing in veterans Wesley Woodyard and Shaun Phillips along with the scheme change, the 6-foot-3 Ayers fell down the depth chart. He had three tackles this season, all in the 29-28 loss to Cleveland on Oct. 5.
